Faq about bbs's in general, mostly pertaining to this one though


what is a bbs?

a bbs (bulletin board system) is a "mix" between a discussion forum site,
a file download site, a mail site, a message site, a community and an
online gaming site.

that didn't make it easier? well it's because a bbs can do so much
this one does:
for starters, i may expand it later :-)

where do BBS's come from (history)?

well before arpanet (now internet) became "big" and every man and womans)
property, there was still a need to communicate, trade ideas, files
thus was born a place to dial to and discuss
BBS's...
now adays most bbs's run telnet,
some still do dial in's too
for a while some bbs's offered users internet (in start of internet)
some bbs's even became isp's :-)

why should i care about bbs culture?

because bbs's often had better community spirit than internet does

this was because many bbs's were topic specific or interest specific
for instance it could be about atari ste...then amiga persons wouldn't call it
even if they could, they wouldn't want to, nothing to interest them there

there were of course some people calling only to flame (abuse verbally)
someone elses computer platform
but then again there are rotten apples all over the world so ...*shrugs*
