Because it's FUN!!! (ok ok so you just got a c64 and it won't even load a program and gives you
"syntax error" till you feel like taking an axe to it's syntax *lol*) patient!!!
it IS fun, it's fun to see how MUCH you can do with a puter
example, mail check from c128 (in c64 mode) via 300/300 modem
this at 80 cols width withOUT the monitor...novaterm..great prog
not fast, not pretty, but doable
same for making homepages on it, heck it could even host a minor bbs
if modem had autoanswer (it doesn't) got circuit layout somewhere for it tho
i will however not modify original equipment unless needed to preserve rest
example A2000/A3000 battery problem, CHECK YOUR MOTHERBOARDS for alkali leak

how much can you cram onto a floppy
well amiga boot floppy (880kb) one of mine contains:(among other things)
zshell
jrcomm
transdisk
workbench
texted
climate
jr-edit
transdisk
muchmore_pp
ummm *to lazy to print em out* i'll do a file list and upload in *.txt
what does that mean?
it means:
on one floppy (880kb) with 1 megabyte of ram
i can write texts, calculate (calculator)
go online and check mail, surf net (dial in shell account)
upload and download files
and this mind you at the same TIME...amiga IS multitasking
now for comparison...win950A (first, smallest, buggiest of win9x series)
installs to around 45 megabytes!!!
and needs around 8 (16 to really work) megs ram+page(swap)file!!!
It's a "how much can i cram into this disk puzzle"
what apps do i REALLY need, which are luxury?
how can i make this puter into something i feel comfortable with
besides todays puters may be fast..but honestly, most of you users out there
how often do you use 95% plus processor cycles??? i guarantee you..not often cept for games
unless you are programmers or graphical artists (and in those cases mostly when you)
compile or render
it's a part of tradition, it's a way to learn puters on a deeper level
and for you "yuppies" out there
old puters are becoming popular discussion pieces
if you think graphical user interface was invented by microsoft, think again!
if you think spreadsheets were microsofts original idea, look up lotus 1-2-3
if you think...???
